Special Education in the School

So, so far I have not been very good at blogging...

Recently I had a sub job as a teacher's aid in an elementary school. I had had a previous sub job as a teacher's aid in a kindergarten class, and it was fun. The children were so cute and trying so hard to write an 8! I thought this last one was going to be similar. But it wasn't. The classroom was a special needs classroom. Just to let you know, there's this new law that special needs children need to be mainstreamed and in "normal" classes--there are no more classes designated as special ed, except for the extreme cases. This class was extreme. Nearly all the children were in diapers, one had a feeding tube, we had two wheel chairs, and one girl liked to pull things, like hair. They were all young, 5-8, but oh my gosh.

All growing up I would see disabled people. They wouldn't scare me, but I was scared at what to do. They need so much attention and some need so much care that I shyed away. So when I was in this special needs class, I was scared to death. The children were cute sometimes, and by the end of the day I was a little more comfortable, but when all of them were screaming (and cannot communicate what they want or need), I just couldn't help but wonder how some people deal with that everyday--they must be angels.

These two experiences have been my only sub jobs I've taken. Notice they've both been as teacher's aids. I am a little scared to have a classroom all by myself--especially jr high or high school. I know I have to get used to it, but taking that plunge is hard. I'm trying to work up to it...

Blogging

So, I'm blogging for a couple reasons. First, I had to set up an account for an assignment in one of my classes. Then, I'm leaving my current job soon (a long story in and of itself that might get it's own post soon) and I want to kep in touch with some people at work. Email has proven unseccesful for me in the past to keep up with people... So, I blog. Oh, and facebook and the such are just not for me. Period.
